Sherri Lasko is a conductor, pianist, and music educator who believes music is one of the truest ways we grow—technically, creatively, and emotionally. Whether she is teaching a student, leading a chorus through a new work, or accompanying a singer preparing for an audition or performance, her approach is grounded in the same philosophy: meet each musician where they are and help them discover more than they thought possible.

Along with teaching several piano and voice students privately, Sherri has served as Artistic Director of Bread & Roses Chorus, a progressive women’s community chorus, since June 2025. Her conducting combines musical excellence with warmth, curiosity, and a deep respect for the people and stories behind the music. She previously served as pianist and co-conductor of Vox Caelestis Women’s Choir, participating in numerous world premieres of choral works for women’s voices. She has also performed with ensembles including the Greg Smith Singers and has toured throughout Europe as a conductor, singer, collaborative pianist, and soloist.

Sherri’s musical education began at age three with her mother, an accomplished pianist. At fourteen, she began studying with William Browning, head of piano at the American Conservatory of Music. After winning her first national piano competition at age twelve, she competed and placed in national and international competitions for more than a decade. She earned her undergraduate degree in piano performance and continued her studies in London with Carola Grindea at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Her conducting studies began with Lynne Bradley and continued with Rex Hicks during her conservatory years. She later participated in masterclasses in Chicago and London with distinguished musicians and conductors including Henry Mazer, Claudio Abbado, Margaret Hillis, Leon Fleisher, and Dale Warland. She also studied voice with Chicago opera singer Sally Kirtley.

As a piano and vocal teacher, Sherri creates an encouraging, individualized learning environment for students of different ages, abilities, and musical goals. She helps students build strong technique and musicianship while nurturing creativity, confidence, expressive freedom, and a lasting love of music. She understands that every student learns differently—and that meaningful progress begins when a student feels seen, supported, and inspired. For over 30 years, Sherri has been teaching and coaching students from beginner to advanced, always with the goal of making music from the heart.

As a collaborative pianist, Sherri brings sensitivity, flexibility, and decades of ensemble experience to rehearsals, auditions, recitals, and performances. She approaches collaboration as a genuine musical partnership, listening closely and creating the support each singer, instrumentalist, or ensemble needs to perform with confidence.

Beyond music, Sherri has worked for more than thirty years as a creative director, producer, and marketing professional. She has served on the boards of several nonprofit organizations and has supported arts and music groups across the country through marketing, fundraising, and board development. She is also a published nature photographer, an environmental volunteer, and a judge for the One Earth Film Festival.

Across every part of her work, Sherri is guided by a belief that music can challenge us, connect us, and reveal strengths we may not yet recognize in ourselves.

I currently lead Bread & Roses Chorus, a community women's chorus dedicated to inclusion, social justice, and community engagement — providing artistic direction and, when needed, serving as collaborative pianist.
